Fitba

Less than an hour to go before kick off in Glasgow Rangers biggest match in the history of the club (since the last biggest match) and I'll make a prediction. Not about the outcome of our Euro campaign (which is obvious) not about the destination of the SPL title (sadly that will be staying where it is come next May) but of the old firm managers.

I predict that come the opening match of next season's SPL (assuming Rangers avoid relegation) both Glasgow Rangers and Celtic will have new managers. Alex McLeish will be sacked from Rangers after another dismal season. To be honest the job is now impossible and the slide of Rangers into the financial abyss will make the Leeds United debacle look like a well run club.

Martin O'Neill will make the move to Manchester United and will fail for the first time in his managerial career. The writing is on the wall for Manchester United, their time has been and gone.

Rest easy. My predictions never come to pass but they usually don't miss by much.

  • Can't really agree with you there - ManU have some great players, its just that they have also got a lot of dead wood on board. Quieroz will get next shout at the manager's job anyway. O'Neill for Newcastle could be a good bet though...

Rangers do look in a lot of trouble though, and probably need a new owner with pots of cash.

  • United are a spent force. Quieroz? Eh? Real won feck all under him with great players, he'd do even worse with the crap that United have now, Walter Smith would make a better job.

Tonight, I can exclusssssively reveal the senssssationallll news that the MON to Utd move is a done deal.

  • CSKA Moscow 1 : The Gers, the bears, teddy bears, Luther's legion, Elizabeth's eleven, Glesga Rangers 1

  • Final score CSKA Moscow 2 : Glesga Rangers 1

A credible performance. We've got an away goal but I can see CSKA scoring at Ibrox which would be curtains. Decent performances from a few Rangers new boys with a bit of desire shown all round. The defence though, hmmmm.

  • McLeish I can see out by November. Agree on O'Neill though. SPL just doesn't hold enough challenge.

  • Who would they replace Mcleish with? Can't see a queue of great managers waiting to take the job on - Strachan's not that daft.

  • I've no idea who they'd replace him with. As I said the job is now impossible. Rangers are in great danger of imploding just like Leeds. Murray keeps saying the debt is long term and serviceable but it is only serviceable based on continued Chamions League participation year after year. With the team we have now or are likely to have in the future that is not possible. The cash for players does not exist. The only hope for the long term would be if we had a neverending crop of young talent coming through. In 10 years the only player we've brought through is Bazza "Fud" Ferguson, a great player and captain (on the park) but where are the rest of them?

Mcleish should have been sacked (for footballing reasons) at the end of last season. He admitted that the team he assembled was done almost entirely on Agents recommendations (Capucho, Emerson, Ostensdtat etc)!!!! He said he wouldn't make the same mistake this year and would instead personally hunt for new talent??? Surely that was his job. He should never have been given the chance after a remark like that. It's probably a sign that Murray realises there really isn't any another option that he's still there.

Make no mistake, Rangers, the club, are in very serious trouble. I keep looking at Leeds and shake with fear.

  • Terry Butcher has been rumoured but that is a fan pleasing move rather than getting a long term and capable management team in place. Seemingly an extra £5 million debt to be announced but this is a lot better than expected.

  • Back to Man U and Quieroz for a minute (as talking about Rangers depresses me). Appointing Quieroz, surely that would just be Ferguson by proxy, the replacement will have to be his own man. The Man U board are too mercenary to let Alex have any influence on the pitch when he goes at the end of this season (a trophyless one). Somebody like MON would be perfect. I tell you, it's a done deal.
