Feeling brave?

The new peer-2-peer system championed by the sadly departed suprnova torrent listing site is now available for public download. Give it a go if you think you're hard enough. I'll install it on a standalone windows box and take a shoogle at it later.

  • Well, for the purposes of research, I've installed Exeem and taken it for a trial spin on a non networked computer (to my own network). Successfully downloaded a small, 2Mb, file. Quite slow, never got above 15Kb/sec download. Also noticed, don't seem to start uploading in return until the file has finished downloading completely. Seems strange to me but it seemed to work. I'm currently running a Spybot search and destroy pass to see what Exeem installed on my system. I'll report further later. Proceed at your own risk.

  • Installed yesterday. Buggy and brings with it Cydoor advertising. Not good. People claim that the cydoor software will only be called when using Exeem but I just don't want junk like that on my pc. Saying that, adding the following to your hosts file will help:

And scanning with ad-aware, Spybot and even Microsofts new sypware Beta is highly recommended.

  • Yup, it's certainly not for the faint hearted. I'm lucky enough to have a number of windows boxes that I can set up for dedicated jobs. I have a 1Ghz PIII, 256Mb Ram Win2K box with 20Gb HD. A full, clean install of Win2K, all the updates and the bare essentials of applications. Take a Norton Ghost drive image and save it off. Then, for those times where I know I'll be doing something that will attract all manner of nasties, I can use the box, get what I want and then delete the whole HD and copy the completely clean install from Norton Ghost back on to the machine. Doesn't take more than 30 minutes. Very handy for time limited demos as well.
