Demon MaxDSL Upgrade

Demon are beginning to get their act together and provide information to their customers about the planned roll out of the faster MaxDSL service on their networks. Check out the mini site they've created here where you can test the maximum speed your connection will support and the date they estimate the upgrade to occur.

I'll be upgraded to their HomeOffice 8000 service the week beginning 16th October 2006 with an initial line check estimating a maximum download speed of 4Mbps. Better late than never I suppose.

  • Allegedly I will get 6.5 Mb in early November. Still currently with Demon, but giving some serious thought to switching to some kind of all in one deal for phone and broadband, might even go VOIP.

  • I too have been hankering after an all in one package but the deals I've looked at have absolutely tiny download caps.

In the future I expect Sky to tie up this part of the market combining Phone, TV and Broadband all in one package (very expensive package I'm sure but cheaper than the sum of the parts currently).

VoIP hasn't really grabbed me but I don't use the phone much. Our next project at work will be a mini UPS for VoIP hardware to ensure it'll always work even in a power cut.
