Will Engineer for Food Cash
Well, the post title says it all. Today was my last day at work as I was officially made redundant a couple of weeks ago. All a bit hasty but there you go, the deed has been done and the best, little R&D team in the entire 99,000 employee company is no more. Me (Genius Mechanical Design Engineer) and my Electronic and Prototype Engineer colleagues were given the news a week past Monday. In a way it was a relief to finally get the confirmation we were dead men walking.
I'll not go into any detail about the circumstances or anything about my former Company lest to say that I know the real world identity of who Dilbert works for as they are* were one and the same :) Honestly, the stories I could tell you about the goings on would make your hair curl.
What's my immediate plans? Don't know just yet, I really need a bit of a break to get my head straight. Thankfully, I've no pressing financial worries which will allow me to weigh my options carefully before taking the plunge into a new job or career even. Obviously there'll be a lot more posts related to these events in the coming days and weeks.
*Yup, I've learned how to do a strikethrough, a new skill no less, that'll go straight onto my CV that will ;)...

Boo. Not so good although reading your post it sounds like you knew it was coming and look on the bright side. It could be the push you need even in to the scummy world of contracting.
